Giampiero Lovat was born in Rome. He received the “Diploma di Maturità Classica” degree with full marks (60/60). In 2001 and 2005 he received the “Laurea” degree (cum laude) in Electronic Engineering and the Ph.D. degree in Electromagnetics, respectively, both from the University of Rome “Sapienza”. In 2005 he joined the Electrical Engineering Department (now DIAEE) at the same university. Since 2015 he is qualified as a Full Professor. 

His present research interests include electrodynamics of graphene and carbon nanotubes, leaky waves, general theory and numerical methods for the analysis of periodic structures, complex media, transient electromagnetics, and electromagnetic shielding.

From January 2004 to July 2004 he was a Visiting Scholar at the Applied Electromagnetics Laboratory, University of Houston, Houston, Texas.

In 2005 he was the recipient of a Young Scientist Award at the URSI General Assembly in New Delhi, India.

He is author of one of the "Fast Breaking Papers, Oct. 2007" (papers that had the highest percentage increase in citations in Essential Science Indicators).

In 2011 he was the recipient of the Best Paper Symposium Award at the 2011 IEEE EMC-S International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility in Long Beach, CA, USA.

In 2020 he has been included in the ranking of the top 2% world scientists recently published on Plos One (https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pbio.3000918).

In 2021 and 2022 he has been recognized as "Distinguished Reviewer of the IEEE Transactions on EMC ".

Giampiero Lovat was Associate Editor for the journals IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters,  Hindawi International Journal of Antennas and Propagation, and  Hindawi International Journal of Microwave Science and Technology and serves as a reviewer for tens of international journals.
