GIAMPIERO LOVAT’S CURRICULUM VITAE 

Education:

2005: Ph.D. in Electromagnetics from “La Sapienza” University of Rome. Thesis dissertation: “Leakage phenomena in dielectric, printed, and metamaterial planar structures

2001: “Laurea” degree (cum laude) in Electronic Engineering from “La Sapienza” University of Rome. Thesis dissertation in Electromagnetic Fields.

1993: “Diploma di Maturità Classica” degree with full marks (60/60).

Biographical sketch:

Giampiero Lovat was born in Rome on May 31st 1975. He received the “Diploma di Maturità Classica” degree from Liceo Classico Statale “Orazio” of Rome with full marks (60/60). He received the “Laurea” degree (cum laude) in Electronic Engineering and the Ph.D. in Electromagnetics in 2001 and in 2005, respectively, both from “La Sapienza” University of Rome. In 2005 he joined the Electric Engineering Department of “La Sapienza” University of Rome as an Associate Researcher. Since 2010, he is an Assistant Professor in the Astronautical, Electrical, and Energetic Engineering Department (DIAEE) at the same University. Since 2015 he has been qualified as a Full Professor in a national competition.

He has been doing research activity on leaky waves, periodic structures, complex media, transient electromagnetics, and electromagnetic shielding. 

He is co-author of more than 170 papers on international books, journals, and conference proceedings. His h-index is 26 (Scopus).

In 2021 and 2022 he has been recognized as "Distinguished Reviewer of the IEEE Transactions on EMC ".

In 2020 he has been included in the ranking of the top 2% world scientists recently published on Plos One (https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pbio.3000918).

In 2011 he was the recipient of the Best Paper Symposium Award at the 2011 IEEE EMC-S International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility in Long Beach, CA, USA.

He is author of “Fast Breaking Papers, October 2007” in EE and CS, about metamaterials (paper that had the highest percentage increase in citations in Essential Science Indicators, ESI).

In 2005 he was the recipient of the Young Scientist Award at the URSI General Assembly in New Delhi, India.

In 2005, he has also been an Invited Lecturer for the course “High-frequency techniques and traveling-wave antennas” organized by the European School of Antennas and for the course “Second week of the Distributed European Doctorate School on Metamaterials” organized by METAMORPHOSE Network of Excellence.

Giampiero Lovat is a member of IEEE, IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility Society (EMC-S), IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S), and IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S). He has been Associate Editor for the journals IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters and Hindawi International Journal of Microwave Science and Technology.
